I don't think Jessica Lange was that good in Tootsie. I think anyone could have done her part. I think Teri Garr was more memorable.

I remember as a teenager walking into a movie theater in Port Richey, Florida to watch this. Hardly anyone was in the theater that day. Wow, it's hard to believe it's now been 40 years. Loved the movie and it's still one of my all time favorites.

These wide screen (Panavision 70) clips are gorgeous! There really should be a Blu-ray restoration available. THE YOUNG LIONS is a really good film too.

Thanks for posting. I love this movie for a variety of reasons not the least of those reasons is it was filmed in my hometown.

I thought i recognized those call letters. Thats the PBS station in the Hampton Roads, VA area

They put a lot of the 24-million-dollar budget into the parade scene. As I recall, 20 Century Fox exces were very ticked off at director Gene Kelly at the poor filming of the parade scene. In some ways the true majesty of the event was not fully captured with the 2-3 static cameras used - and the one boom-lift. But back then, they didn't have the digital effects where they could do long shots of the parade and add digital old New York. They had to keep all shots tight on the Burbank New York Street set. There is a quick shot in that scene where a 60s car can be seen in the background. Just imagine if they had drones filming the scene in hi def Panavision! Just have to wait for the remake, starting Lady Gaga when she's in her 50s. It will be interesting to see what Streisand writes in her soon to be released bio - My Name Is Barbra. Also, though Streisand and Matthau did have some bad blood between each other, he was at her Malibu One Voice Concert back in 1986. But he had to pay $5k for his ticket, like everyone else did.

Please let us remember that [as has been proven many times] this film is FICTION and Hellman's statements in "Pentimento" have been thoroughly debunked, not by nasty right-wing people but by the real women who really did work in the underground, as Hellman DID NOT. Enjoy the film as fiction if you will, but don't pretend it represents history.

Absolutely one of my favorite movies. And I love that the majority of the cast did not have an 'acting' background. The music and choreography it what makes this movie the success that it is today.

Danny Epperson! This was delightful. Thank you! Tootsie is one of my top five favorite films. It always feels fresh and involving even though I've viewed it dozens of times. Tootsie's editing is so sharp. There is never a lag. Every role, down to the smallest is excellently played. The culmination of the four "love stories" followed by Michael's late-night meeting with George is masterful. And I love that the history of George and Michael is never explicitly revealed, though you feel they've known each other for decades. Former college roommates, perhaps?

Merly Streep is not the actress there with Marlon Brando in a Streetcar Named Desire-lol. But I can see how he emulated or was inspired by her voice to get her southern accent .

I love her name Emily Kimberly. Wish I had a relative with that name.
